Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a 20-man preliminary squad for the home Test series against the West Indies. West Indies will visit Bangladesh to play three ODIs and two Tests, beginning with the first ODI in Dhaka from the 19th of January. Dhaka and Chattogram will stage the two Tests that starts in February.
Mominul Haque will most likely retain the captaincy spot having given by the BCB in late 2019. Ace all-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan has made the cut in the preliminary squad after completing a two-year ban from competitive cricket. Mustafizur Rahman will hope to play Test cricket after a year as his career has been regularly disrupted by injuries.
The international series against the West Indies would also be Bangladesh’s first since March 2020. The sub-continent nation has not participated in any international cricket as their series faced postponement due to the COVID-19 crisis. In September 2020, Bangladesh announced a preliminary squad of 27 for the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka. However, with a player testing positive for COVID-19, the two cricketing boards deferred the rubber as they could not decide on the quarantine requirements for the players.
Bangladesh’s preliminary squad for the Test series against the West Indies:
Mominul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al-Hasan, Najmul Hasan Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Liton Das, Yasir Ali, Saif Hasan, Abu Jayed, Taskin Ahmed, Khaled Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shadman Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Ebadot Hossain.
