Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar was amongst those left disappointed by India’s insipid showing on the third day of the opening Test in Adelaide against Australia. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood turned the heat on the Indian batsmen to skittle them for their lowest Test score (36) by sharing nine wickets between them. Sunil Gavaskar suggests India to add Shubman Gill and KL Rahul into their eleven for the second Test in Melbourne.

From being ahead by 62 runs at the end of the second day, the tables turned on India. Even the likes of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara could not get the ball rolling in favour of their side as the tourists were unable to counter the relentless spells of bowling by Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins. None of the Indian batsmen reached double figures as they created an unwanted record.

I thought the Australian bowlers in that second innings were superb. They put the ball on a penny. I think this is the best the Australian bowlers have ever bowled. You can’t change what they delivered. There was a little bit of seam movement there as well,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak.

Their form has been quite good: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar further said that India would most likely carry on two changes – swapping KL Rahul for Prithvi Shaw at the top and getting Shubman Gill to bat at number five or six. Since their form has been on the rise, the 71-year old opines that things could change if they could get the tourists off to a confident start.

“There are going to be two changes in the batting for sure. One, KL Rahul will probably come for Prithvi Shaw to open the batting. And Shubman Gill is likely to come at No.5 or No.6. Their form has been quite good and if they come and give us a good start, then the picture can change. I am positive about that,” he added.
