With the decade all set to end in a couple of days, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, on Monday, named his Test Team of the Decade. The fans, experts and others are busy in naming their Test team of the decade and thus Ricky Ponting also decided to follow suit. The legendary cricketer’s star-studded team had three players from Australia, four players from England, and one player each from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand.

India captain Virat Kohli was the only Indian in Ricky Ponting’s team. The ex-cricketer also named Kohli as the captain of his side. India have done exceedingly well in Tests under Kohli. They are at the top of the ICC Test rankings for more than three years now and are also at the top of the points table for ICC World Test Championship.

Kohli’s record as a batsman has been equally impressive. He has scored the most runs this decade and has over 7,000 runs in Tests this decade. Since making his Test debut in 2011, Kohli has smashed a staggering 27 centuries.

The Australian legend picked former England captain Alastair Cook and his ex-teammate David Warner as the openers for the team. Cook retired from Tests last year and is England’s all-time leading run-scorer in the longest format of the game. Warner, on the other hand, has been one of the most consistent batsmen for Australia in Tests.

They were followed by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson at number three. Australia batting mainstay Steve Smith was picked as the number four batsman. Williamson has proved himself all across the world while Smith is widely regarded by his fellow Australians as the best Test batsman since Don Bradman. At number five, Ponting went for Kohli before picking Kumar Sangakkara ahead of AB de Villiers as the wicketkeeper-batsman.

For the allrounder’s slot, he went for England star Ben Stokes who recently helped England drew the Ashes at home. In the bowling department, Ricky Ponting picked three pacers – James Anderson, Dale Steyn and Stuart Broad while Nathan Lyon was the sole spinner in the team.
