India’s World Cup winning players, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar could be part of a panel to select India’s new women’s cricket coach. There is certain possibility regarding BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee not being able to conduct the process for specific reasons. After the controversy of the rift between Mithali Raj and Ramesh Powar, the coach’s spot has been left vacant.

The deadline to file applications ends on December 15. As per the process, the CAC is supposed to conduct interviews related to the job profile. The committee comprising the three men – Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly may not be a part of the process due to prior commitments.

“Sachin (Tendulkar), (VVS) Laxman and Sourav (Ganguly) will be asked first, and once they give it in writing that they are interested, they will decide on a new coach,” a BCCI source privy to the development, told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Big names miss out due to conflict of interest

“The BCCI is looking at eminent names, and right now we have around five names on our radar depending on their availability. Also, we have checked whether there’s any Conflict of Interest,” the official said.

There are also reports saying the CAC might have refused to conduct the rounds just like the case of junior national selection. Therefore, a new panel could be formed. Tendulkar had sighted conflict of interest as his son, Arjun Tendulkar has now moved up the ranks in the domestic circuit.

Meanwhile, former legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar may not join the panel, as he has commitments in the media sector. Though Gavaskar has always been a keen observer of women’s cricket, there may be changes in the future panel. However, Kapil is an obvious choice, as he has the reputation of an analyst of the game for long.
