Pat Cummins in No Hurry to Return to International Cricket

Injured Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins has backed the medical staff – to take the conservative approach as he and his teammate Josh Hazlewood race against the time to be fit for the upcoming series against Pakistan scheduled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Meanwhile, speedster Mitchell Starc has returned to training and looked in line to be back for the two-match Test series. But Cummins and Hazlewood are not rushing in as they carefully manage back injuries respectively.
“There are no guarantees with injury, especially a stress fracture,” he told cricket.com.au,” Cummins told cricket.com.au.
The duo will undergo scans next week, which will give a clear picture to see whether they can resume their bowling again.
But Cummins, no stranger to serious back issues, admits rushing back too soon could prove disastrous.
“It’s something you have to be really, really careful with. We’ll find that balance between getting back and playing and being a little bit cautious. If I’m 100 percent fit, I’ll definitely be going to Pakistan. There’s no doubt about that,” he added.
With a lot of cricket to be played, it would be a huge blow for a side already without banned batsmen Steven Smith and David Warner.
Australia’s recent drubbing against England underlined how they badly want their seamers in the next 12 months.
With conditions favouring batsmen and slow bowlers, it will be good that they rest well and prepare for the long home series. But Pat Cummins dismissed any thought that he would purposely miss the tour.
“There’s no way we’ll be rested. (We’ll only miss out) if we’re still trying to recover from our injuries. If any of us did miss it. It’s great that there’s so much cricket so soon after that and we’ll be fresh and ready to go,” he concluded.
