Former legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara saysPrithvi Shaw is a mix of India’s legend Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw had scored 237 runs during the two-match Test series against Windies. He also joined the elite class of scoring a Test hundred on debut.

Since his grand entry to the international arena, there have been comparisons of him with the former legends. So much so, few compared him with the legends likes Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. However, the Windies legend does not entirely agree to the comparisons drawn between him and the young Shaw.

In an exclusive interview with Mandakini, Lara shared why Prithvi Shaw is different from him. He also talked about Windies chances in the ODIs and T20s in the current tour of India. Lara also admitted that he was not as powerful as Shaw when he was 18 while lauding him as a terrific player.

“First of all, Prithvi is a right-hander and he is more of a mix of Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag. I remember when I was 18, I was not as powerful as he is. Also, the way we were accustomed to bat was very different back in those days. Prithvi strikes the ball very well and looks a very good player, very solid, somebody who has a great love and passion for the game.” Brian Lara said.

Although Prithvi Shaw has put up some good show against Windies, he will have a tough road ahead. Brian Lara also feels Shaw has a great potential to learn and he will do that to continue his current form.

“I see in him a great appetite to learn and that is the most important thing as no matter how much talent you possess, you must keep learning and he has that humbleness. I know he will keep improving.” he added.

Furthermore, the management has already declared the squad for the first two ODI games against Windies. There might be a possibility that they can try out Prithvi Shaw in the remaining fixtures.
