Prithvi Shaw, on Friday, displayed just why he is rated as one the most prodigiously talented young batsman going around in the current era. The Delhi Capitals opener displayed his full range of strokes against the Chennai Super Kings during his 43-ball 64- an innings which included nine sumptuous fours and one six.

Audacious cover-drives? Check. Backfoot punch? Check. Thumping lofted shot over the bowler’s head? Check. Swat over backward square-leg? Check. Delicate cuts behind the square? Shaw displayed every shot in the book to whet the appetite of the purists.

But, it could have been all over for Prithvi Shaw, had MS Dhoni and CSK appealed for caught-behind after the opener had got a feather on his bat on the second delivery of the innings bowled by Deepak Chahar.

CSK didn’t and they were left to rue about it as the right-hander cashed in big-time to stitch a brilliant opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan, paving way for DC to eventually end with 3-175 in 20 overs.

Shaw was asked by the commentators during a mid-inning interview about the inside-edge and the Indian U-19 World Cup-winning skipper had a tongue-in-cheek reply for it.

”(On the inside edge against Chahar) Was there an inside edge? I didn’t know,”

Shaw was eventually dismissed by Piyush Chawla after he was outfoxed by a flattish trajectory, only to be stumped by MS Dhoni. In the interview, the opener also opened up about his mindset during the knock.

I think we had a slow start but carried on playing our shots after that and capitalized well. I thought I would play my natural game, but a lot of ground shots because it’s a nice outfield. I was trying to hit boundaries instead of making silly mistakes. We discussed after the last game and it was about getting into a good position in the powerplay and not lose more than one wicket. The plan was to play the natural game but play along the ground. The wicket was quite sticky in our game against Punjab” Shaw was quoted as saying by CricBuzz.
