Former India cricketer Ramesh Powar has re-applied for India’s Women’s team head coach job. It was uncertain on whether Powar will once again throw his hat in the ring after the controversy shook the cricketing fraternity. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier advertised for the position of national team’s head coach. Quite a lot of familiar names showed their interest in the lucrative contract.

A feud between Mithali Raj and Ramesh Powar:

The dispute between Powar and veteran cricketer Mithali Raj went public recently. The dirty linen was washed in public as the blame game irrupted in no time.

Mithali, a senior member of the side, was benched for the all-important semi-final game against England in the World Twenty20 this year. There were reports earlier stating that the two didn’t make eye contact during their stay in the Caribbean nation.

Allegations of humiliation by senior cricketer:

Mithali alleged Powar of humiliating her while Powar revealed that the cricketer had threatened to leave the tournament mid-way if she isn’t offered the opening slot.

Under the tutelage of Powar, India sealed a series 4-0 against Sri Lanka away. An impressive show against Australia counted for a 3-0 win at home. The side won all of their three warm-up games and remained unbeaten in Group B.

After seeing Harman and Smriti’s backing, I’ve decided to re-apply. Rather, I felt it was my duty to apply as I did not want to disappoint them if they believe in this kind of coaching. Rest is, obviously, in BCCI’s hands,” Powar told Cricbuzz soon after submitting his application.

“In fact, a lot of girls have spoken good for me, and I didn’t feel like letting them down,” he added.

Powar eager top bury the hatchet

Powar stated that if his application is considered, he is willing to bury the hatchet by honest communication. The ex-coach said he always believed in an open door policy and is still open to dialogue.

“There are a lot of positive vibes around that group of people and in the team on the whole. And I’ve been and will always be open to talks. I never have closed the door on anyone, for that matter. I was always open to communication, from Day 1 to the last day of my contract. And going forward it will be the same,” Powar concluded.
