The India Under-19 team has reached the finals of the 2018 World Cup and will challenge Australia for their fourth title on 3rd February.
Australia reached the final of the tournament by defeating Afghanistan in the semi-final, while on the other hand, India reached the final by beating their arch-rivals Pakistan by a huge margin of 203 runs.
The margin of defeat took the cricketing world by surprise, as the competition between these two teams is known for the close encounters in the past.
Former Pakistan’s batsman, Ramiz Raja feels the Pakistani team should also have a captain like the legendary Rahul Dravid who has been instrumental in the young Indian team’s transformation.
The Indian players which include Prithvi Shaw, Shubhman Gill, Manjot Kalra, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Ishan Porel have shown individual brilliance in the tournament.
In the semi-final match against Pakistan, Shubhman Gill scored an unbeaten 102 which was eventually helpful for the Indian to win by 203 runs.
Raja said the Pakistan youth side should also have a coach like Rahul Dravid,
“We need to have given someone charge for a proper time period like India has done with Rahul Dravid.”
Raja said he was immensely impressed with the temperament of the young Indian players and the credit should be given to the Indian coach. Raja said,
“I am impressed with the temperament shown by some of the Indian players. They have a fine find in Shubman Gill and others. Rahul Dravid deserves a lot of credit for preparing and grooming them so effectively. They learn such a lot from him not just about cricket but about everything else. How to conduct oneself, how to develop a game sense and so on,”
Raja also said he was disappointed with the lack of batting talents in the Pakistani side,
“The way our players fielded and batted it wasn’t pleasant to watch. I think in Pakistan we need a total revamp of our youth cricket system. The Cricket Board needs to pay a lot more attention to youth cricket.”
