Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Rangpur Riders‘ have roped in the service of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the upcoming edition of the tournament. The ace Bangladesh cricketer has been in excellent form in recent which will bolster Rangpur’s chances of winning the trophy.

Shakib joins Rangpur Riders

Shakib will shift his base to Rangpur from Dhaka, where he played in the last few years. Shakib Al Hasan has played a significant role in the success of Dhaka Dynamites in the previous few seasons. Dynamites are the only team to win three editions of the competition while Rangpur have won once and Comilla Victorians winning the coveted trophy twice. Dynamites have replaced Shakib with World-Cup winning England skipper Eoin Morgan.

Shakib Al Hasan has played for Rangpur Riders in previous seasons; thus, will have a fair idea about the team atmosphere. However, the only change is that of the team owners. The all-rounder will also replace Mashrafe Mortaza as the team’s icon player and that probably means, Mortaza will have to look out for a new franchise in the upcoming season.

Rangpur Riders will pin their hopes on Shakib Al Hasan, who had a dream run in the World Cup. The top-ranked ODI all-rounder became the first cricketer to score 600+ runs and claim 10+ wickets in one edition of the tournament. He will add a lot of value to the team with his ability to contribute to all the departments. Shakib has almost 1500 runs in the BPL and is the only bowler to pick more than 100 wickets in the competition.

The upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League will start from December 6.
