Rangpur Riders Sign Alex Hales For Next BPL Seasona

Alex Hales has signed up for Rangpur Riders for the forthcoming season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The England star, who had pulled out of England’s tour of Bangladesh in 2016 due to security fears, became Riders’ first of the two signings from outside the draft, apart from their four retained players.

The Riders have retained Chris Gayle, Mashrafe Mortaza, Nazmul Islam and Mohammad Mithun.

The England opener is currently in Sri Lanka for the ODI series.

Hales, meanwhile, will not have a tough time adjusting to the new dressing room. He will be coached by Tom Moody who is also his coach at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Moody had guided the Riders to their maiden BPL title last year.

Reports also suggest that the defending BPL champions are eyeing to rope in retired South Africa start AB de Villiers as the second outside-the-draft signing. De Villiers, who will also ply his trade in the Big Bash League, will be able to play the last seven to nine fixtures of the tournament thanks to the revamped schedule of the BPL.

The Riders will fill the rest of their squad during the October 25 players’ draft.

The BPL is scheduled to be held in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet from early January. The revamped schedule of the competition will clash with the Big Bash League in Australia and the UAE T20x tournament.
