Ranji Trophy 2017/18: Delhi Receives Major Boost as Ishant Sharma Joins the Squad

Delhi Team received a major boost to secure their quarter-final berth in the Ranji Trophy after their regular captain Ishant Sharma was released by the India team management to join the Delhi team for their fifth-round match against Maharashtra starting from Friday.

As per policy of the team management, players who are not in the first XI are sent to play first-class cricket to keep them match ready. Maharashtra’s mainstay Kedar Jadhav got ruled out of the match due to injury.

Delhi team Manager Shankar Saini while talking to PTI said,

“Ishant will be reaching Delhi by evening, and he will be leading the side. Rishabh Pant will be his deputy. We have got confirmation.”

Delhi is on the second spot in the group with 17 points in four matches and is in contention to go ahead, as one of the two top teams from the group.

Delhi is the current favourites over Maharashtra, who are on 10 points from four games and they would need a big win to qualify which looks impossible right now. With Ishant joining the team, he will share the red cherry with Navdeep Saini with Shivam Sharma and Mannan Sharma managing the slow-bowling department.

Maharashtra coach Surendra Bhave admitted the middle-order batsman Kedar is currently in NCA for strength and conditioning.

“We have our skipper Ankit Bawne, who has been a dependable longer format player. Rahul Tripathi had a great IPL, and Rohit Motwani is coming at the back of a hundred in the last game. I am still confident we can qualify,” Bhave signed off.
