"Can We Get Another Tendulkar": Ravi Shastri On Finding MS Dhoni Replacement

MS Dhoni is a once in a lifetime cricketer. He called time on his playing career on Independence Day, this year but his void will be hard to fill in. Team India were grooming players to replace him well ahead of his retirement but the plans have not worked as it could not produce the desired results.

Dhoni made a big name for himself by making the country proud with his achievements after coming from the cricketing backwaters of Ranchi. He has achieved immense success as a player and also grew up to be one of the most successful captains and achieved almost everything the ICC tournaments had to offer.

Shastri said that Dhoni’s boots are massive to fill as he is one of the greatest cricketers ever due to the track record he has. Team India head coach also explained it by saying  that to find a replacement for him is as good as finding another Kapil Dev or Sachin Tendulkar which would not be easy.

“Those are massive boots to fill. With the track record, he (Dhoni) has, he has gone down in history as one of our greatest cricketers. Not just as a keeper and a batsman but his record as captain. To find a replacement for him is like once Kapil Dev finished can we get a Kapil Dev? Till today, we haven’t found another Kapil Dev,” Shastri told Times Now.

“Can we get another Tendulkar? It’s not easy to get these kind of players but there is enough talent in the country and it is up to the youngsters to grab the opportunity,” the Indian head coach added.

All the success has made him one of the most influential person on the cricketing circuit but he was not the same when he was first introduced to the national team. Besides that, MS Dhoni has also been the go-to man for his teammates whenever he is on the field.
