Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his opinion on his relationship with skipper Virat Kohli and said that they have a huge mutual trust between each other. He also went on dismiss the prevailing notion that the duo might not go on to form a durable bond for a considerable amount of time.

During a candid conversation with CNN News, 18 Shastri conceded the fact that his equation with Kohli is great.

“Equation (with Kohli) is great. We are similar personalities (and) there is an element of trust in our relationship. We are both strong-minded, and both play to win at all costs. We don’t go there to do time-pass. This is not a team that is out there to fill up the numbers. We want to compete. We want to take the game forward.”

“He is pretty similar in his mindset when it comes to that, and he is in your face kind of character. With Virat Kohli what you see is what you get. He knows if he asks me a question, he will get the answer. There is no beating around the bush,” Shastri added.

It was after the resignation of former India head coach Anil Kumble which elevated Shastri to the position. There were several differences of opinion between Kumble and Kohli which eventually led to his resignation. Shastri who has taken over the reign since then has coached in 25 international matches with 20 victories and five defeats.

When asked about the differences of opinion between Kohli and Kumble Shastri mentioned the 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan. Shastri who was sitting in the commentary panel revealed that he had a chat with Kohli regarding his decision to field in the all-important final.

Despite expressing his displeasure about Kohli’s move to field first, Shastri insisted that a captain’s decision should always be backed as the captain deserves the right to implement whatever he feels because he is always the only boss in the team.
