The Indian Premier League is already in its 11th season. Over the past 10 years, the IPL has slowly but surely become an integral part of the Indian cricketing calendar. The tournament has paved way for local young Indian players to rub shoulders with some of the very best in the world. In the past, we have seen several players making their national debuts following success in the IPL. They are many examples, especially in the Indian side.

However, IPL is not only an opportunity for youngsters. It also allows the under-performing senior cricketers to come back to the national reckoning after a lean patch. We have seen how senior players have made comebacks to national teams after a brilliant season in the IPL for their franchise. Most of the franchises usually have a few senior players which help keep the balance in the team.

Out of favour Indian middle-order batsman, Yuvraj Singh was brought back by the Kings XI Punjab in this year’s edition for just Rs 2 crores. However, Yuvraj has not really lived up to the expectations. The southpaw has failed to deliver for Punjab in this tournament so far. The stylish batsman hasn’t really played an innings of substance in the tournament so far. It was the reason for his eventual ouster from the team in the favour of Manoj Tiwary. The latter eventually made his debut for the new franchise against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

It was long coming especially given the fact that Tiwary was waiting in the wings from the start of the tournament. In that particular match, Kings XI Punjab failed to chase down a below-par target of 133. They got off to a splendid start while batting. The opening duo of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle provided a 55 runs partnership. However, a brilliant piece of bowling by Hyderabad turned the match on its head. They eventually won the match by 13 runs.

What…. What Update??

In the post-conference, Kings XI Punjab skipper was enquired about the update of Yuvraj Singh. He was got pretty annoyed and gave a stern reply.  “What..What update? I have told clearly that he has been replaced by Manoj Tiwary.” It was quite clear that Ashwin was not happy with the question neither was happy surrounding the performance of his franchise. However, they need not worry as Punjab sit pretty at 2nd on the points table with 5 victories and 2 losses from 7 games.
