Indian Cricket Team’s premier Test spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to play two County matches for Worcestershire after India’s Test series against England.
Meanwhile, he is likely to play against Essex and Yorkshire as per reports in ESPNCricinfo. Since India-England Test series ends on September 11, Ashwin will have a few days to take rest and turn for the team from September 18, if signed.
However, the report adds Ashwin hasn’t signed any contract as of yet. Moreover, he will have to seek permission from BCCI before signing for the County side.
Last year as well, Ashwin signed with Worcestershire after missing out the Sri Lanka limited-overs series. He played four games for them bagging 20 wickets. Apart from this, the off-spinner also scored 214 runs from six innings at an average of 42.80.
Ashiwn will become the sixth player
If signed by the team, Ravichandran Ashwin will become the sixth Indian player to play county cricket this season. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, and Varun Aaron are already playing in County Championship games for Yorkshire, Sussex, and Leicestershire, respectively.
Moreover, Axar Patel will play for Durham in six games after landing team’s camp in August. Further, Indian skipper Virat Kohli will play for Surrey next month as a preparation for the England series.
As a result, Kohli will miss the one-off Test series against Afghanistan. Also, he will miss the first T20I vs Ireland and will be in time from the second game.
