Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the most relieved man on the field after he almost messed up a chance to run out the dangerous Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Dinesh Karthik in the IPL 2022 clash of the two teams at the MCA Stadium in Pune on April 26, 2022.
Rajasthan Royals batted first after RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and somehow posted 144/8 in 20 overs. RCB made one change as Anuj Rawat’s luck finally ran out and he was replaced by Rajat Patidar. Rajasthan also made two changes, with Daryl Mitchell making his IPL debut in place of Obed McCoy and Kuldeep Sen coming in for Karun Nair.
Riyan Parag was the face-saver for RR as he slammed 56* in 31 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours to his name, while Sanju Samson contributed 27 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, and Mohammed Siraj starred for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they picked two wickets each.
Dinesh Karthik’s Hilarious Runout By Yuzvendra Chahal Puts The Match In RCB’s Court
It was widely anticipated that RCB will overhaul this target with some overs to spare, but they started off on the wrong foot as Virat Kohli’s abysmal form continued as he was out for 9 runs. Faf du Plessis made 23 and Rajat Patidar made 16, while Glenn Maxwell made a golden duck.
Most of the responsibility to see through RCB to the win was now on Dinesh Karthik and he started off well by sweeping Yuzvendra Chahal for a four in the 13th over. However, on the 4th ball of the over, viewers got to see one of the most hilarious and overall bizarre run out.
Shahbaz danced down and pushed the ball to mid-on and came down in search of a run. Dinesh Karthik responded, but midway, Shahbaz changed his decision. In meantime, the mi-on fielder under-armed the ball to Chahal who was at stumps, but he failed to gather the ball cleanly and it dropped to the ground.
However, Karthik gave up too early and Chahal had a few more seconds to gather the ball, which was near the stumps and dislodge the bails before Karthik made ground.
While Chahal and other RR fielders were in shock and Karthik looked relaxed as the umpires called for a third umpire; the replays changed the entire mood as Prasidh Krishna scooped Chahal up in his arms and Karthik sheepishly walked off the field.
