After the latest modifications to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) constitution, the new rule set for the officials is established to see the representatives take a certain period of time as a cooling-off leave. Meanwhile, it might see Sourav Ganguly taking the position as the president of the cash-rich board, according to the latest developments.

Recently, the Supreme Court overlooked the recommendations made by Lodha Panel Recommendations and gave the judgement in favour of BCCI.

Well, on one of those rules, the cooling-off clause might pave the way for former skipper Ganguly to take the reigns.

Sourav Ganguly might get the nod:

The Prince of Bengal, Sourav Ganguly is currently serving as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). If Ganguly receives an off from the state board, he might take the reigns as BCCI’s new president.

Fondly known as DADA, Ganguly already ticked all the boxes to be the president of the national cricket board. He has got enough knowledge to take an active part as the president.

“He is definitely eligible and ticks most of the boxes”, a senior BCCI official told The Indian Express.

However, if selected, Ganguly has to serve only two years as the BCCI’s president. He already completed a  four-year stint as the CAB president and adding the next two years, Ganguly will be eligible to the cooling-off clause.

Ganguly’s opinion on taking the role:

Earlier, a couple of months ago, when Ganguly was asked to express his opinion on being the BCCI’s president, he added that players could be good administrators if they give quality time for the assessment.

The veteran southpaw went on say that the non-players also has the ability to the deal well with the role. But, he added that experience plays a vital role. However, Ganguly feels that the candidate should have both the criteria.

In an interview with The Hindu earlier this year, Ganguly had said:

“Players can be good administrators but it depends on how much time they put in. What you are ready to put in as an administrator is also important. I think non-players can also be very good and I think it should be a balance of both; they both have a place in the system, and that’s important.”

However, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Sourav Ganguly. The appointment of him as BCCI president will bring good vibes to the Indian cricket as he has got the vast experience in his kitty.
