Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting was one of the greatest fielders of the game during his playing days. He has affected as many as 80 run-outs in international cricket, the most by any fielder in cricketing history. Former South Africa player Jonty Rhodes follows next on the list as he affected 68 run-outs to his decisive fielding skills. As a case in point, the two-time World Cup-winning captain Ponting has now picked his top three fielders of his generation.
Post his retirement, Ponting has his commentary and coaching stints. Currently, Ponting is the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC).
Surprisingly, he hasn’t picked even a single Indian fielder.
Ricky Ponting names top three fielders of his generation:
Ponting took to his Twitter handle for a question and answer session, one of the netizens asked him to pick the top three fielders in the world.
The Aussie veteran named his former team-mate Andrew Symonds, along with two South Africans namely AB de Villiers and Jonty Rhodes as the three best fielders.

Currently, he is the head coach of Capitals and has also worked closely with Rishabh Pant. He reckons that the young wicket-keeper, who had recently lost his place to KL Rahul in India’s limited-overs side, will soon make a comeback.
Meanwhile, Rahul impressed the Indian team management after his stellar performance against Australia when Pant suffered a concussion. Rahul was the first-choice wicketkeeper in the first two T20Is against New Zealand while Pant sat out from the playing XI.
With Rahul scoring crucial fifties in both the games, it is highly unlikely that the young wicket-keeper Pant would get a chance in the team anytime soon.
Needless to say, Ponting believes that Pant will win back his place in the Indian team sooner rather than later.
Ricky Ponting keen to work with Rishabh Pant:
The Australia legend said that he is looking forward to working with Pant in the upcoming IPL.
“@RishabhPant17 is a young man with a huge amount of talent. I’m looking forward to working with him again during the IPL and I’m sure he’ll be back in the Indian team sooner rather than later,” Ponting wrote.
