Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is one of the very few captains, who has an illustrious record when it comes to the captaincy in Test as well as ODI cricket. He is one of the two captains along with Clive Lloyd to have won more than one World Cup as a captain and was also part of Australia’s victorious as a player in 1999 under Steve Waugh. Among his two World Cup wins as the skipper, the Tasmanian rates the 2007 World Cup victory as his most memorable one.

Ponting cites the reason for 2007 being the most memorable one:

The likes of Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, and Glenn McGrath all played in their last World Cup edition in 2007 which they finished it by bagging their fourth title, beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Gilchrist was crowned as the man of the match for his destructive knock of 149 off only 104 balls at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The men in yellow’s most recent World Cup victory came in 2015 under Michael Clarke. Unfortunately, they relinquished it in 2019, having been defeated by the eventual champions England in the semi-final. They have the most number of World Cups in history, having won five of them.
