After a string of failures, Rishabh Pant has finally managed to find form with the bat after putting on a great show with the bat against West Indies in the ODI opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday. Pant looked like a different player altogether as he scored a career-best 71. He beautifully constructed the innings with the help of seven fours and a six at a strike of over 102.

It was a year that never really got going for Pant. But Pant has learnt his lessons well and scored his maiden fifty in ODIs. India failed to defend the target and as a result, they lost the match by 8 wickets to go down 0-1 in the three-ODI series. However, Pant’s revival helped India steer to a total of 287/ 8 in 50 overs after they were put in to bat on the traditional slow wicket at Chepauk.

After India lost KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early on in the game, Pant cemented a 114-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, who scored 70 runs to help India steady the ship. Pant who has been criticised for his failures this year impressed the fans with his sublime batting. Fans also supported young wicketkeeper and started chanting his name on a ground which is considered to be Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni’s second home.

It is important when the crowd supports you: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant took notice of that and then acknowledged the support he got from the Chennai crowd at the post-match press conference. “Sometimes it is important when crowd support you because as an individual I was thinking of scoring big runs but I was not getting there. I’m not saying I got there but I’m just trying to improve every day. As a team point of view, whatever I can do to help my team win and to have a good score on the scoreboard that’s what I was focusing and in the end I got some runs,” Pant told the media reporters.

As a youngster, I just want to learn and improve myself each and every day of cricket I’m playing,” he added.
