Veteran Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has said that Rishabh Pant, the young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, can be the perfect replacement for MS Dhoni in the India National Cricket Team. The Indian limited-overs wicketkeeping conundrum has been going on ever since MS Dhoni played his last game for team India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final.
That went on to prove Dhoni’s last game for the Men in Blue as the former Indian skipper officially hung his boots this year on Independence Day. This made way for young Indian wicketkeepers to portray their talent in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), which by far, has been used to the best of their abilities. Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ishan Kishan, have all emerged as the next wicketkeeper-batsman contender for team India in limited-overs cricket.
Ashish Nehra Picks Rishabh Pant As The Next Indian Wicketkeeper
Ashish Nehra, the former Indian pacer, however, believes that Rishabh Pant is the best suitable candidate in the present scenario who can go on to replace MS Dhoni as the nest Indian wicketkeeper.
Speaking on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’, Asish Nehra said, “It totally depends on which format we are talking about. If we are talking about Test cricket, and if you want to go with the best wicket-keeper then you also have to consider the mindset of the captain and coach.”
“I am in total agreement with Sanjay Bangar, I think they should go ahead with Rishabh Pant. Pant should be backed! Every player needs to be backed when it comes to international cricket,” Ashish Nehra added.
Team India Has Failed To Fill The Void Left By MS Dhoni
The BCCI and the Indian cricket team management have failed to fill the gaps left by MS Dhoni, ever since he took his feet off the field last year. KL Rahul- Rishabh Pant has become the talk of the town in recent times. Since MS Dhoni’s departure from the Indian team, the team has failed to find an effective replacement.
Pant had been given numerous chances but he failed miserably. But, his concussion in the first ODI against Australia made way for Rahul and the Karnataka wicketkeeper-batsman has become a regular starter since then.
