Riding on his stunning displays in the just-concluded Test series against South Africa, India star Rohit Sharma has moved into the top ten of ICC Test Rankings for the first time in his career. The latest ICC Test Rankings was released on Wednesday, a day after India thrashed South Africa by an innings and 202 runs in the third Test.
Rohit Sharma, who was promoted as a Test opener for the first time in this series, made the most of the chance. He scored three centuries in four innings including a career-best 212 in the third Test to finish the series as the highest run-scorer. Rohit Sharma jumped an impressive 12 positions to move into the top ten.

On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane, who too scored a century in Ranchi, jumped four places to fifth. India skipper Virat Kohli, however, failed to toppled Steve Smith. Kohli remained at number two but now trails Smith by 11 rating points. Cheteshwar Pujara is another Indian in the top five. The right-hander is fourth in the rankings.

For South Africa, Quinton de Kock is the highest-ranked batsman at 13. Dean Elgar, Faf du Plessis and Aiden Markram follow de Kock at number 15, 16 and 17 respectively. In bowlers’ ranking, Kagiso Rabada is the highest-ranked South African at second while Jasprit Bumrah dropped to fourth after missing the series due to an injury. Ravichandran Ashwin at tenth is the only other Indian in the top ten.
Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav have moved up to 15 and 24 respectively after impressing in the series. In the allrounders’ list which is led by Jason Holder, Ravindra Jadeja is the highest-ranked Indian at number 2.
