India head coach Ravi Shastri is a delighted man at the moment and the reasons are pretty obvious. India have looked like the team to beat in the ongoing World Cup. The Men in Blue have thoroughly dominated the contest and are looking almost unbeatable. India did lose one game against hosts England but have looked rock solid otherwise.

The Virat Kohli-led side finished the group stage at the top of the points table with 15 points. Consequently, they will take on fourth-placed New Zealand in the first semifinal in Manchester on Tuesday. And as the players gear up for the big clash, Ravi Shastri lavished praise on them. In a video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Twitter, Ravi Shastri praised Indian players for their brilliant performance in the tournament.

The former India allrounder hailed the man of the moment Rohit Sharma. He said that Rohit is one of the greatest ODI players. Rohit has been in scintillating form in the tournament and has scored a staggering five tons and one fifty in eight outings. So far, he has scored 647 runs and is leading the run-scorers’ chart.

Rohit has broken Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara‘s record for scoring the most centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. His red-hot form is one of the reasons why India have dominated the contest. In the last three outings, he has crossed the three-digit mark and would be hoping to replicate that show against New Zealand.

“He is one of the greatest ODI players, whether he has scored runs in the competition or not. Just seeing his records over the year, three double hundreds in ODI, no one has done that and he is been really consistent for India,” Ravi Shastri said.

Shastri further praised India bowlers for their spirited performance in the World Cup so far. He pointed out Mohammed Shami’s bowling spell against Afghanistan where he clinched a hat-trick.

“Chahal has got a great temperament as he attacks the batsmen and looks for a wicket, that was the need of the hour. The team that improved like hell, Afghanistan. The match went down to the wire and you needed something special and Shami delivered for us,” he said.
