India’s flamboyant opener Rohit Sharma maintained that Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is the toughest bowler when it comes to facing him in the nets. Mohammed Shami has been one of India’s most improved fast bowlers in recent times.
The pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishant Sharma has helped India win a lot of Test matches lately. They have become one of the most fierce pace bowling units in world cricket and are one of the key reasons behind India’s rise in Test cricket over the last couple of years.
Rohit Sharma has now gone on to say that Mohammed Shami is the toughest bowler to face in the nets, placing him even before Jasprit Bumrah.
Rohit Sharma Names Mohammed Shami The Toughest Bowler In The Nets
Speaking to Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodriguez on a Youtube chat show, Rohit said, ” Shami is the toughest bowler I have ever faced in the nets. Actually, the pitches in net sessions are usually lush green with a lot of moisture in them. So, Shami loves green pitches. Whenever he sees a green pitch, he comes into bowl having a lot more biryani.”
“I think he is the toughest bowler to face in the nets as we have played a lot more against Shami in the nets. Bumrah is also difficult to deal with but I have been playing alongside Mohammed Shami since 2012-13 and I face Bumrah in the Mumbai Indians nets as well but I haven’t faced him as much as I have faced Shami,” Rohit added.
“They (Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah) usually compete with each other at the moment as to who beats the batsmen more, who hits a batsman more on the helmet, so they compete with each other and it creates a cumbersome task for us batsmen,” Rohit further said.
Mohammed Shami Had Also Lauded The Indian Vice-Captain
Speaking to Irfan Pathan in an Instagram Live, Shami said, “Sometimes, while I am commentating and watching Rohit Sharma play, I feel he is not a cricketer, but a poet. He bats as smooth as butter, like a poem. The bowlers don’t even realise that he is slamming, and he keeps on slamming.”
Shami added, “Exactly. I feel he is a package – to learn and to show what is cricket. He is pure batsman. If he is batting, you will get to learn a lot.”
“He will hit bowlers, and you get to learn. If you are a batsman, you get to see how much time he has to play a shot. You will also see how to bat in different conditions. He is a next level batsman. He is the best package,” he further added.
