Mumbai Indians moved to the top of the table by securing a 34-run victory over SunRisers Hyderabad in the 17th match of IPL 2020. It was a debatable decision to bat first by Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma to bat first as Sharjah witnessed the highest-run chase pulled off quite recently. However, Rohit Sharma’s men pulled off a comprehensive win over the Orange Army.

After electing to bat first, Rohit Sharma departed in the first over itself. However, the likes of Quinton De Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan kept the runs coming followed by Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard making crucial contributions. However, the final flourish provided by Krunal Pandya was the highlight that lifted the defending champions over 200 and finish by 28. The bowling all-rounder carted Siddharth Kaul for 21 runs in the 20th over to give Mumbai an upper hand.

It was David Warner, who anchored the Hyderabad’s steep chase; however, none of the other batsmen hung around to stitch partnerships. The likes of Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey started brightly; however, were not able to carry on. Towards the end, the pitch became sluggish and Warner found it hard to get the boundaries. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers, having finished with figures of 4-0-28-2 as Mumbai coasted to a victory.
“I definitely missed out, but again you try your best whenever you have the opportunity” : Rohit Sharma
“The wicket looked good but it was slightly on the slower side so getting past 200 was a great effort. We didn’t have any total in mind. We back our bowlers to do the job. And that’s what they did. I definitely missed out, but again you try your best whenever you have the opportunity. Great effort from the boys to put those runs on the board.
We decide the middle order depending on how the game is going. Match-ups, match situation etc. It is great to have three power hitters. Today Krunal also showed his value. You come with bowling plans. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but you have to bowl the best delivery at the time. I don’t try to impose my plans on them. I want them to give me their plan, and then I set the field. It is always nice to have bowlers who do that,” Rohit told in the post-match presentation.
