Indian batsman Rohit Sharma played a mesmerising knock at Mohali as he registered his 3rd double hundred in One Day cricket. The scintillating knock came against Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series, after going down to the visitors in the first one. The flamboyant stroke player’s colossal 208-run knock helped India to a total of 392 runs in their 50 overs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Rohit Sharma, who is the acting skipper for the men in blue in the absence of Virat Kohli, had a point to prove after losing the first ODI. However, his answer came stunningly as he hammered the Lankans for a plethora of monumental sixes which counted to 12. He also smashed 12 boundaries in his innings dismantling the Sri Lankans to the core.

However, the captivating innings saw the right-handed batsman break into some record lists. He became the only batsman in the world to hit three double tons in the 50 over format of the game. Sharma also became the second Indian batsman to score a double century with the captain’s armband. Apart from these, Rohit Sharma’s brilliant manhandling of Suranga Lakmal for four consecutive sixes saw him become the second Indian batsman to do so in ODI cricket. The first of course, being Zaheer Khan when he thrashed Zimbabwe pacer Henry Olonga for the same in the year of 200.

Sharma’s innings came off just 153 deliveries and boasted of a brilliant strike rate of 135.95. He was brilliantly supported by Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer who chipped in with 68 and 88 respectively. The match now looks way out of hand for Sri Lanka, and the Lions must pull off a miracle to gain something out of this one. With the Sri Lankan batting left, the Indians are all set to level up the series at one each.
