Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad has urged his protege to power India to glory in the 2023 World Cup. The next 50-over World Cup is scheduled to be held in India. In the previous two World Cups, the Men in Blue’s journey ended at the semifinal stage.

Rohit Sharma was part of both the teams. In the 2019 edition of the tournament, he was in sensational form. The right-handed batsman had scored a record five centuries while finishing the tournament as the highest run-getter. However, it was not enough to take India to the triumph.

And as India eye their third World Cup title. Lad has asked his protege to win the trophy for his country on his own. Rohit Sharma was recently announced as one of the winners of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India’s highest sporting honour.

“Getting the Khel Ratna is a great achievement. I should not say this but if a poor boy has talent and he justifies it and has luck, then that boy can reach the sky and a living example of it is Rohit Sharma.

“All that he has earned due to his hard work and talent. My expectation is that the forthcoming 50-over World Cup, Rohit should win it for India on his own ability,” Lad said on Marathi cricket chat show “Coffee Cricket Ani Barech Kahi”.

At present, Rohit Sharma is in UAE for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The thirteenth edition of the tournament is scheduled to be played between September 19 and November 10. Having led Mumbai Indians to a record four IPL titles, Rohit Sharma would be eyeing a record-extending fifth title this year.
