The Indian opening batsman, Rohit Sharma is not enjoying a good fortune unfortunately in the Test format. Eight years ago, he injured his ankle just before fifteen minutes while playing a game of ‘rocket-ball’ resulting in twisted ankle owing to his impending Test debut. However, New Zealand veteran Scott Styris believes it is something interesting

After one and a half-year following the unfortunate incident, Rohit got a chance to display his skills while donning whites. Although, he made a dream debut in Test format by slamming a ton and the story did not go along similar lines after that.

Rohit has been continuously struggling with this format resulting he is not able to transform the limited-overs success in this format.

The former Kiwis batsman, Scott Styris feels that batsman like Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill suits only one version of the game. He said that one needs to understand the psyche of players and the format where he will suit perfectly.

And interacting with the media during the launch of Karnataka Premier League 2018, Styris expressed his view on Rohit Sharma regarding the Test fold.

“I’m not going to criticize either of those two because they are wonderful cricketers. I’ve been teammates with both. Some people suit one version over the other,” he said.

Styris, who too slammed a ton on his Test debut also talked about the lean patch of Cheteshwar Pujara.

Pujara, who is falling on the same spectrum is taken as a readymade candidate in Test format. Pujara has taken part in 59 Test matches and played just five One-day Internationals. Styris believes that he does not feel the same commotion against skills of Pujara in white-ball cricket.

“I don’t necessarily see the same criticism for someone like a Pujara and his Test game which is outstanding. He hasn’t been able to work out the white ball game. Some players find a way to find what suits their game a little more,” he added.

Scott Styris put Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill in the same chart:

Styris believes that the Test failure of some batsmen should not be put into the negative line.

Guptill who ranks less than 30 even after playing 47 Test matches falls under the same.

Styris says that both are the players, but it is not necessary that they need to prove their mettle in the extended format.

“For Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill, two of the best white-ball cricketers, it’s an excellent problem to have because they are the best of the best,” Styris added.
