A day after Shivam Dube smashed five sixes in as many balls in last year’s Ranji Trophy, Royal Challengers Bangalore splashed a whopping Rs 5 crore in the Indian Premier League auction to secure his services. Shivam Dube had emerged as one of the most talented allrounders in the domestic circuit and was attracting interest from several franchise.

However, he failed to justify his big price tag. The Mumbai allrounder failed to cement his spot in the playing eleven and played only four games. In those four games, he managed just 40 runs and rarely showed the form that convinced Royal Challengers Bangalore to splash the cash in the auction.

And the Bangalore-based outfit reportedly had enough of the allrounder as they wanted to trade him with another franchise. As per report, Royal Challengers Bangalore were all set to release Shivam Dube before his performance for India A and Mumbai made them change their decision.

As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, Royal Challengers were in talks with a North Indian franchise to trade the allrounder. The talks were on and Dube also got involved as he is entitled to get the negotiated amount. However, the franchise was quick to take a u-turn after watching Dube’s recent performances.

He impressed for India A on the tour of West Indies. More recently, Shivam Dube helped Mumbai to a quarter-final finish in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 177 runs in five innings, remaining not out thrice. He averaged 88.50 at a strike rate of 146.28. The highlight of the tournament for him was the 118-run knock against Karnataka which included seven fours and ten sixes.

Shivam Dube recently earned his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the report further claimed that the Royal Challengers might release Tim Southee and Shimron Hetmyer. Both the players failed to do well in this year’s IPL.  The auction for next season of IPL takes place on December 19 in Kolkata.
