Rohit Sharma scored his 17th ODI century as he guided India to 274 for seven in their 50 overs. However, India created history in the fifth One-day International in Port Elizabeth by rattling South Africa on 201.
The visitors won the match by 73 runs and subsequently registered their first-ever series win against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation.
India went into the match with a 3-1 lead with just one more win needed for the series win.

Rohit Sharma struggled with the bat throughout the current tour of South Africa tour as he failed in both the Tests. He played and then failed in the four ODIs. He scored just 40 runs in his four outings.
Many former and current cricketers criticized the way Sharma approached his innings at the top of the order.

Sharma went to the Rainbow nation at the back of a formidable home season, as he scored his third double century in the ODI format. He also equaled the record for the fastest Twenty20 International century.
Rohit Sharma was picked up in the Test side ahead of Ajinkya Rahane but failed miserably and received a lot of criticism.
However, his first century on South African soil has certainly silenced the critics and Sharma is proud of the way he returned to form.

Sharma was trolled for his poor form on social media. He said that he feels privileged if the fans talk about him on social media:
“I feel privileged if the people are talking about me on the social media. Of course. People want to talk about me, they will talk about me. But to be honest, what goes in my head is completely opposite. I am here to do something special for the team. Whenever I get an opportunity to play, I always see that I do something special for my country”.

He also added that performance is the best way to silence your critics, “As long as you are playing the sport, good things and bad things will happen. When you are doing good things, people will talk. When you are doing bad things, people will still talk. I have managed that really well in the past few years because when you are having a good time, be aware of that you will have a bad time as well. That’s how a sportsman’s career goes. I am pretty much in that space right now”.
