India were firmly on the backfoot when day two of the ongoing third Test against South Africa started. India were bowled out for just 187 on the first day, and the pressure further piled on them when Kagiso Rabada and Hashim Amla put on a fifty-plus stand.

However, before the Proteas could further strengthen their grip on the game, India’s pacers helped the hosts claw their way back in the game. Ishant Sharma provided India with the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Rabada to end his 64-run stand with Amla. After that, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah accounted for AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis respectively to reduce the hosts to 107 for five from 80 for 2.

Bumrah then dismissed Quinton de Kock cheaply before Amla, and Vernon Philander took the score past 150 runs with a 44-run stand. But just when it seemed the Proteas would comfortably cross India’s first innings total, Bumrah took the prized scalp of Amla while Mohammed Shami dismissed Philander to leave the hosts reeling at 175 for 8. South Africa managed to get past India’s total but only took a slender 7-run lead. Bumrah starred with the ball for the visitors, earning 5 for 54 while Bhuvneshwar took 3 for 44. India then finished the day on a commanding 49 for 1 to extend their overall lead to 42.

India’s impressive performance has been garnering praise from all over and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also lauded the side. Tendulkar also praised Bumrah for his maiden 5-wicket haul in Tests and also had a word of advice for the team.

“Great work by our bowlers and hearty congratulations, @Jaspritbumrah93 for your maiden five-for. Need a couple of good partnerships now. C’mon #TeamIndia!,” he tweeted.
