Sanju Samson’s hopes of making it to the Indian team again has hit another roadblock. The highly-rated keeper-batsman has been dropped from India A squad for the tour of England for reportedly failing the mandatory Yo-Yo Test.

According to Mumbai Mirror, Samson had few niggles and could not train well which could be the reason behind him failing to clear the mandatory test.

The fitness test has been made mandatory by the BCCI for selection into the national teams. Currently, the players need to touch the mark of 16.1 in the Yo-Yo test to make it to the team. And Samson paid the price for not touching the qualification mark.

The selectors, meanwhile, are unlikely to name a replacement for Samson. Rishabh Pant is already there with the team as a specialist keeper-batsman. The side can also utilise the services of Hanuma Vihari, who can keep wickets if needed.

Being ruled out of the ‘A’ team has come as a big blow for Samson after a good IPL and domestic last.

Playing for Rajasthan Royals this season, he amassed 491 runs at an average of over 31 and a strike-rate of almost 138. Before that, he had a brilliant outing in the Ranji Trophy.

Samson scored 627 runs in seven games with the help of two tons and three fifties. He had also scored a century against the visiting Sri Lanka side last year in a warm-up game.

Samson had already made his international debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe in a T20I game. He was also in the squad for England tour in 2014 but did not play a single game.

Meanwhile, India A’s tour kicks off with the tri-series followed by three four-day fixtures. India A will play two games against West Indies A from July 4 to 7 and July 10 to 13, and one against England Lions from July 16 to 19.

India A squad:

Shreyas Iyer, (Capt), Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wk), Vijay Shankar, Krishnappa Gowtham, Axar Patel, Krunal Pandya, Prasidh Krishna, Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Shardul Thakur.
