A late resurgence has given Rajasthan Royals a bleak hope of making it to the next stage. It looked all over for the inaugural winners of the competition when they won just two of their opening eight games. However, things have changed dramatically ever since Steve Smith took over as captain. They have won three of their last four games and are in contention to make it to the playoffs.

In their last outing, they had thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets. Bowling first, they managed to restrict the Sunrisers to just 160 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Manish Pandey did manage to score a quick fifty but the Royals did not let the other players get off the hook. Liam Livingstone and Ajinkya Rahane then came out all guns blazing before Sanju Samson played an unbeaten knock of 48 to take the side home.

Despite having won just 5 of their 12 games, Rajasthan Royals still stand a chance of making it to the next round. Here are all the scenarios:

What will happen if Rajasthan Royals win both their remaining matches?

If Sunrisers Hyderabad win both their games and Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders, Royals will be out. They can be tied on 14 points with one or more sides, but their current net run-rate of -0.321 will pip them out of contention for the Playoffs spots.

What will happen if they lose one and win one?

The Royals can mathematically qualify with six wins. But for that to happen, Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to lose both their remaining games and both Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders should lose at least one of theirs. But even in that case, Royals’ negative run-rate could make things tough for them.
