Stats: Cricketers to have scored double hundreds in ODIs

Since the inception of limited overs cricket, the game of cricket has developed as the batsmen have started scoring more and more runs. A few years back scoring individual double ton was a tough job to do, but; however, the game has evolved as the batsmen have started scoring right from the first ball. With grounds becoming smaller and smaller, it has helped the batsmen to hammer the ball efficiently and play individual knock.

The first individual double ton was scored by the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar as he played an unbeaten knock of 219 against a touring South African side. Then it was followed by other four batsmen; however, out of the five batsmen, who have achieved this feat, there are three Indians on the list.

Here is a list of the batsmen who have scored double centuries in ODI’s:

Sachin Tendulkar: The living legend and former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was the first batsman in the history of ODI cricket to register the first double hundred as he played an unbeaten knock of 200 runs against South Africa in Gwalior as he broke Saeed Anwar’s record of a highest individual score of 194 runs.

Virender Sehwag: The hard-hitting all-rounder from Delhi scored his double hundred against the West Indies team at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Sehwag hammered the ball all around the park as he scored at a strike rate of 146.97.

Rohit Sharma: The stylish opening batsmen from India is the first batsmen in the history of fifty overs cricket to register three double hundreds. Out of the three double tons, two of them came against Sri Lanka, and the other one came against Australia. Earlier today, Sharma registered his third double hundred as he played an unbeaten knock of 208 runs at Mohali.

Chris Gayle: The destructive left-handed opening batsman from West Indies is well known for hammering the ball outside the park and scoring runs quickly at the top of the innings. He is the only batsman from West Indies to feature in this list as registered his only double hundred against Zimbabwe at Canberra.

Martin Guptill: The right-handed opening batsman from New Zealand has all the shots in his kitty and can increase the scoring rate whenever required. He is also the lone Kiwi cricketer to score a double hundred as he played an unbeaten knock of 237 runs against West Indies at Wellington.
