Sanju Samson is set to receive yet another setback as far as his international career is concerned. After making his debut way back in 2015, Sanju Samson played only his second game for India when he got the chance in India’s playing eleven when the Men in Blue took on Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I on Saturday.

Sanju Samson had earned a recall from the national team after a long gap of four years during the Bangladesh T20Is in November. However, he did not play a single game and was surprisingly dropped for the series against West Indies. But an injury to Shikhar Dhawan led to another recall although he did not play any game against West Indies either.

He managed to retain his spot for the ongoing series too but was not named in the playing game for the first two games. But on Saturday, India finally gave him a chance to show his potential on the field. But it was a mixed comeback as he hit the first ball for a huge six and was out on the very next delivery.

Another setback:

Sanju Samson is in line to be dropped from the T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand which starts on January 24. According to The Times of India, Sanju Samson could make way for senior opener Rohit Sharma who was rested for the series against Sri Lanka. One of the batsmen will have to dropped from the team and Samson looks like the likely candidate.

So far, Samson has only been called up in the absence of regulars so far. He managed to retain his spot in the team for the Sri Lanka series only because Rohit Sharma was rested. Samson, nonetheless, remains in picture as he is already there in New Zealand as the selectors have drafted him into India A squad for the white-ball series against New Zealand A. He can join the national squad at any time even if he loses his spot in the 15-member squad to be announced later today.
