India’s medium-fast bowler Shardul Thakur has come up with a rather brazen defence for his performances against the Kiwis. India faced a humiliating defeat by the hands of the New Zealanders in the ODI series and were clean swept 3-0.

It is for the first time in 31 years that India have been whitewashed in three-match or more ODI series. The last time it took place was back in 1988 when India were whitewashed under Mohammad Azharuddin.

However, the Indian players are coming up with some shameless statements after the loss.

First Virat Kohli, then Yuzvendra Chahal, and now Shardul Thakur, it seems as if the Indian team might soon need a verbal coach too.

“It is OK to go for runs. As a bowler, you can’t end up bowling extraordinary spells every time you go out to bowl. The idea is that if I am going to go for 20 runs in a particular over, then I should be able to bring the runs down to 16, 14 or 15 in the next over. I think those five-six runs make a huge difference in the end,” said Shardul.

However, he has said that he will learn from his mistakes as he is relatively new in the Indian side and has less international experience.

“I will study my mistakes and consider them as learning experiences. It was only my first trip to New Zealand as compared to the other players. I have not played as many games for India. Currently, I am just into that phase where I am gaining experience and going forward, I will try to produce greater contributions for the team’s cause,” he explained.

New Zealand and India will now lock horns for a couple of Test matches. The first game of the series will begin from February 21 at Wellington.

India will look to win the series and emerge victorious at the end of the tour.
