Former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar has revealed the name of the man who is likely to replace Misbah-ul-Haq as the chief selector of Pakistan’s men team. Misbah, on Wednesday, stepped down from the post and would now serve only as the head coach.
The former Pakistan captain was serving in dual capacity since his appointment in September last year. He was given a three-year contract as the chief selector and the head coach. Speaking about his decision to step down, Misbah said he took the decision based on Pakistan’s workload in the next two years, stressing that he wanted to focus more on his role as a head coach.

Misbah will, however, continue to carry out selection duties until the new chief selector takes over from December 1. Pakistan’s next assignment is the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe at home, which begins on October 30, followed by three T20Is.
After that, they will tour New Zealand for three T20Is and two Tests in December-January. Misbah will handle the selection of teams for both these series. The new chief selector is likely to start his tenure by selecting the teams for the home series against South Africa in January, which includes two Tests and three T20Is.
The likely replacement:
While only time will tell Pakistan’s new chief selector, Shoaib Akhtar has stated that former pacer Mohammad Akram is likely to replace Misbah. Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter to reveal the development, writing:
“From what my sources tell me, Muhammad Akram will be the new chief selector. Good luck to him on this tricky but important position.
“Muhammad Akram has done a great job with Peshawar Zalmi and other projects. I think he will be great for this position and will get good results for Pakistan. Good luck and best wishes and prayers for him,” he added.

Mohammad Akram represented Pakistan in 9 Tests and 23 ODIs. He has previously served as Pakistan’s bowling coach for one year from 2012 to 2013. He has also served as the head coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Peshawar Zalmi.
Incidentally, Shoaib Akhtar was also rumoured to be in contention for Pakistan’s next chief selector. The pacer himself had insisted that he had received an offer from PCB before the cricket board denied the development.
