Not so long ago, former Indian Women’s team skipper Mithali Raj grabbed headlines, when she was asked to name her favourite men’s player, however, after the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20I World Cup, things have changed.

Shreyas Iyer recently named his favourite women’s cricketer in a question/answer session, that surely would have made Mithali smile.

Raj was irked when she was quizzed to name her favourite men’s player by a journalist, to whom she replied that the men’s cricket players are not asked the same, regarding their favourite women’s player.

However, times have changed. Indian middle-order batsman Iyer – who is in isolation as India’s ODI series with South Africa was called off – named Jemimah Rodrigues as his favourite women’s player in a Twitter interaction with his fans.

The Indian women’s team had an incredibly successful World Cup in Australia, where they reached the final after staying undefeated throughout the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side fell just short in the finale, but they were on the receiving end of praise from all quarters. The Women’s World Cup became a big talking point amid cricket fans and its after-effects are still being felt.

In a question/answer session with his followers, Iyer sat down to reply to various queries, one of which read, “who is your favourite female cricketer?”, to which the 25-year-old replied by taking Jemimah’s name. Although he further explained his choice as well.

“Jemimah Rodrigues – she’s fearless in her approach and believes in her abilities,” tweeted Iyer. 

Now that novel Coronavirus has put a halt on all sporting activities across the world, various cricketers are nowadays taking these question/answer sessions on Twitter while being in quarantine.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper answered a plethora of queries, from choosing between football greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to naming his favourite South Indian dish- the Mumbai born cricketer diligently replied to various of his followers on the micro-blogging site.
