Ahead of the 2019 World Cup, the No.4 conundrum was the biggest issue to be solved for Team India. The problem to find a fix remained largely unsolved with the national team keeping the spot flexible throughout the marquee tournament. Premier India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, veteran MS Dhoni to young Rishabh Pant were all tried on the No.4 spot, depending upon the team’s requirement.

However, after the quadrennial, Shreyas Iyer has batted at that spot for a long period of time and produced results for the side. It looks like his consistency has solved India’s long-time problem to fix the No.4 spot.

Shreyas Iyer: I have secured India’s No.4 spot

Shreyas Iyer is of the opinion that there should not be much questions over the No.4 spot as he has batted in that position for long enough now. The Mumbaikar thinks he has solved the issue, but is ready to be flexible, and take up batting positions wherever required.

“I have told this in many interviews. There should be no more questions asked about India’s number 4 batting slot. If someone has played on that position for a year then he has secured that spot. Good feeling about securing the number 4 spot. You need to be flexible but I feel I can bat at any position depending on the condition,” Shreyas Iyer said in an Live Instagram session with Delhi Capitals.

Iyer has been solid batsman in the limited-overs but still trying to make a breakthrough in the longest format. He has an average of nearly 50 in the ODIs and raked up eight half-centuries and one century in the format.
