India star Shreyas Iyer will lead Mumbai in the soon-to-start Vijay Hazare Trophy, the premier 50-over domestic competition. Shreyas Iyer will be looking to continue his form with the bat in the upcoming tournament. Last year too, he had led Mumbai and had taken them all the way in the tournament. Mumbai had defeated Delhi to lift the trophy last season.

Shreyas Iyer recently made a comeback to India’s ODI team and made an instant impression. On the tour of West Indies, he scored fifties in both the ODIs. Iyer is likely to get an extended rope in the ODI team now. India have struggled to form a reliable middle-order in recent months and Iyer’s displays in the Caribbeans have put him in a good place.

He is also a part of the India squad for the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa. However, he is expected to be available for Mumbai right from the first game of the tournament as they play their matches in Bangalore, the venue for the third T20I.

Suryakumar Yadav, who was dropped from the squad last season, has found a place in the squad this time. He is also named as the vice-captain of the side. With Prithvi Shaw suspended due to the doping violation, Jay Bista is expected to open the innings.

Hard-hitting Sarfaraz Khan is also back in the Mumbai fold after serving the cooling-off period. He had left Mumbai to join Uttar Pradesh ahead of 2015/16 season but made a comeback in 2018. As per the rules, he had to serve a one-year cooling-off period to be available for selection.
Dhawal Kulkarni will lead the Mumbai’s pace attack along with Shardul Thakur, who recently made a comeback for India A, and Tushar Deshpande.

Another big attraction in the squad is allrounder Shivam Dube. The southpaw had an impressive season last year and had bagged a lucrative IPL deal from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Later, he also broke into the India A side.
