Sri Lanka are all set to host Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series at home in June this year. The series will serve as a great preparation for the Island nation for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier matches in Zimbabwe in June and July.

The first game between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be played on 2nd May whereas the remaining two games are scheduled to take place on June 4th and June 7th respectively. All three games will be played at the MRIC Stadium in Hambantota.

This will be the first time since February 2020 that a match will be played in Hambantota. Afghanistan recently toured Sri Lanka in November 2022 for the ODI series. The series was quite exciting with Afghanistan winning the first game and then Sri Lanka bouncing back in the last game to level the series after the rain-washed second game.

Here’s the schedule of the Afghanistan tour to Sri Lanka:

1st ODI – June 2, Hambantota

2nd ODI – June 4, Hambantota

3rd ODI – June 7, Hambantota

IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SL vs AFG: Sri Lanka failed to qualify directly for the Cricket World Cup 2023

Sri Lanka failed to qualify directly for the Cricket World Cup 2023. They suffered a disappointing 2-0 ODI series loss against New Zealand recently and were out of the race for the direct qualification and are now 9th on the table. They won just 7 games from 24 matches in the cycle.

They will now travel to Zimbabwe to play the qualifiers. The Lanka Lions will lock horns with the USA, UAE, West Indies, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Oman, and Nepal and one among Ireland and South Africa in the qualifiers.
