Amid the coronavirus pandemic chaos, a big news surfaced on Friday stating that the BCCI has sacked Sanjay Manjrekar. The former India batsman is one of the most experienced and popular commentators in the world right now but BCCI was reportedly not happy with his work and thus decided to throw him out from its commentary panel. He is also unlikely to be a part of the panel for the IPL this year.

As per the media reports, Sanjay Manjrekar did not travel to Dharamsala for the first ODI between India and South Africa as he was dropped even before the start of the series. But since the game was washed out without a ball being bowled, not many realised that he was not present at the venue.

He was part of the commentary panel for the last three World Cups and almost all ICC  events since bringing down curtains on his illustrious career. At the same time, he was also one of the most controversial figures in the commentary box. More often than not, Sanjay Manjrekar faced the heat for his bold comments on-air.

Last year, he landed in a few big controversies last year because of his comments. The first big controversy happened in the World Cup when he called Ravindra Jadeja a bits and pieces cricketer before the latter shut him down with a sensational performance against New Zealand in the semifinal and then slammed him on Twitter. Later, he was involved in a heated on-air tussle with fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle.

Sourav Ganguly reacts:

While the BCCI or Sanjay Manjrekar are yet to react to the development in public, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was asked about the board’s decision on Saturday. However, the former India skipper straightaway refused to comment on the removal of Sanjay Majrekar from the BCCI/IPL commentary team, according to Mumbai Mirror.

While things are not looking very promising for Sanjay Manjrekar at the moment, a BCCI official reportedly said that he could return in the commentary box for India’s next series. The official also revealed that he has no idea about the reason that led to the ex-batsman’s sacking.

“Yes, he wasn’t a part of the panel for this series, but it doesn’t mean that during the next series, he won’t be there. I don’t know what exactly was the trigger,” an agency report said quoting the unnamed BCCI official.
