India’s spin sensation Kuldeep Yadav has revealed spin legend Shane Warne is his idol. The left-arm spinner, who has been making waves with his performances in recent times, met Warne for the first time during his Test debut in Dharamsala earlier this year and has not looked back since then.
In his debut Test, he had bowled a decisive spell of 4 wickets, dismissing the likes of David Warner, Glenn Maxwell as India thrashed Australia by 8 wickets to win the game and seal the series. He had later revealed how Warne’s tips helped him to dismiss Warner with a flipper.

Kuldeep kept on performing well thereafter. He was not included in the team for the Champions Trophy but was a part of the team that toured West Indies last month for a limited-overs series. He impressed once again and finished the five-match ODI series as its highest wicket-taker.The 22-year old had an impressive outing in Sri Lanka too and he finished the ODI series against Australia as India’s highest wicket-taker, taking 7 wickets including a hat-trick.
He also impressed in the first T20I against Australia, taking 2 for 16 in his four overs to bag his first Man of the Match award. And speaking before the second game, he revealed how Warne and his compatriot Brad Hogg has played a big role in his rapid rise.
“Both play a very important role in my career,” Yadav said on Monday (October 11). “I’ve followed Shane Warne since childhood. He’s my idol.
“My life will be a success if I could achieve 50 per cent of what he has achieved,” he added.
Speaking about Hogg with whom he shared the dressing room in the IPL, Kuldeep said: “You learn a lot with a fellow chinaman, be it his flipper or wrong’un.”
He’s 46 now with a career span of over 23 years. For me, it’s just the start of my career. It’s great to gain some experience from them,” he added.
