Sri Lanka has seen a downward slope across formats in the past few years but are finding ways to get themselves back among the top teams. Mickey Arthur was named the coach for Sri Lanka on a two-year contract in December 2019. His stint for the island nation comes after playing a crucial role for Pakistan, besides the experience of coaching South Africa and Australia.
After Mickey Arthur took over as coach, Sri Lanka lost the two-test series against Pakistan but responded strongly with a win over Zimbabwe at home. At a crisis situation in Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC), their Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne believes Mickey Arthur has had an instant impact on the side.

Mickey Arthur is no nonsense bloke, he has instilled belief in us: Dimuth Karunaratne
Dimuth Karunaratne lauded the South African Mickey Arthur and said, he is a no nonsense bloke with his experience making instant impact for the side. He also added that team has regained believe in themselves under Mickey Arthur.
“Mickey is a no nonsense cool bloke with loads of experience to back him and his brand,” Karunaratne told Sri Lanka Cricket.

“At the international level, planning and role clarity is a norm. What is very important is the belief he has instilled among us in his own and subtle way. It sure helped and the results always speak for itself.”
Sri Lanka is currently on the eight spot in the ODI rankings but Karunaratne believes they can rise to the top five spot under the mentorship of Mickey Arthur.
