The legendary cricketer of the Indian National Cricket Team Sachin Tendulkar, who has played 200 Test matches for India feels that the standard of the Test cricket has gone down. He cited that the lack of world-class fast bowlers is the major aspect, which is denting the rise of Test Cricket.

Gone are those days when fans used to wait for the contest between Sunil Gavaskar and West Indies bowlers, Dennis Lillie vs Imran Khan, Sachin Tendulkar vs Glenn McGrath or Shane Warne. But, now, we hardly see such an encounter, as the greatest bowlers of the game have called curtains on the game.

I am missing the rivalries between players – Sachin Tendulkar

Besides that, the pitches have also become very assisting for the batsmen. Speaking of the same, Sachin Tendulkar feels that the dearth of quality pace bowlers has all but put an end to the iconic duels which once added to the charm of Test cricket.

“Rivalries which people invariably looked forward to are no longer there because there are very few world-class fast bowlers right now. That element I am sure is missing. The quality of fast bowling can surely be better without any doubt,” Tendulkar told PTI while analysing how cricket has evolved in the past 30 years (15th November 1989) since he made his debut.

We should provide fair pitches –

Further, Sachin Tendulkar asked the officials to give the lively pitches, which will assist the fast bowlers and the spinners. He believes that giving perfect pitches will certainly bring the charm of the game to life. At any cost, Sachin Tendulkar wants balance between the bat and the ball.

“The standard of cricket has gone down which is not great news for Test cricket. The standard needs to go up and for that, I would again say that the root cause is the playing surfaces. I think it has also got to do with the kind of pitches that are provided. If we provide fair pitches where fast bowlers, as well as spinners, get help, then the balance between bat and ball will be restored,” he added.

Well, as Sachin Tendulkar said, fans are missing the rivalries of a player to player. Most of the Test matches are boring unless one of the top three teams such as India, England or Australia is involved in it. The recent Ashes Test series has brought a perfect balance between the bat and the ball, which yielded great response from the fans.
