On the other hand, head coach Justin Langer and Test skipper Tim Paine have always put the focus on getting former legends to contribute to the team’s cause. Both Paine and Langer had taken this step to restore the fan’s faith in the team after the ball-tampering saga in South Africa.

It is a great step.
Similarly, Australia’s two times World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting is currently mentoring the side in the ongoing World Cup and the results are noticeable as the team has already secured their semifinal berth.
Meanwhile, Steven Waugh was the last Australian captain who had won an Ashes series on English soil in 2001. Thus, Australia has not savoured success in England in the last 18 years.
“I know it is something that ‘JL’ and myself have been quite big on, that is to try and get some of our past legends in and around the team,” Paine said on the Cricket Australia website late Wednesday.
“During the World Cup as well, we have had Ricky (Ponting), and now with the Test series, we are very fortunate to have Steve Waugh who is, obviously, a legend and is going to be great service for me as a leader and captain.

“I think to have someone like him around during a Test series is going to be great for our whole group,” he added.
Steven Waugh went on to play 168 Test matches in which he played 46 against England. Waugh scored 10927 runs at an impressive average of 50.59 and he is regarded as one of the most successful captains of the most successful team.
