The former Australian skipper Steven Smith can make his way back to playing cricket in the Twenty20 tournament in Canada. The T20 tourney will kickstart from next month (June) in Toronto.

It is reported by Cricket Australia (CA)  that Smith can feature in the Global T20 tournament which will commence from June 28. The tournament will run till July 16. It is going to be a six-team competition and Smith can partake in it.

This is a good news for Smith:

Meanwhile, Smith was banned for a for a period of one-year by CA for his involvement in the ball tampering scandal which later on snowballed into a massive controversy.

Every six teams in the Global T20 league will include four Canadians players. Thus, the remaining seven slots will be filled by foreign players.

The six teams that would participate in the tournament had earlier received a green signal by International Cricket Council (ICC) in February.

The six teams are Caribbean All-Stars, Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Ottawa Royals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks. These six sides will fight it out in the tournament which will last for 18 days.

Smith has played 155 Twenty20s in which he has accumulated more than 3,000 runs at an average of 30.03 and strike rate of 125.36.

Meanwhile, Smith also could not play for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

This is a positive move for Smith as he will stay connected with the game.

However, he is also banned to play in the domestic circuit of the Australian cricket. Meanwhile, Australia’s former deputy David Warner is also expected to return to action.

Warner will play for a Sydney Club Randwick Petersham. Club President has confirmed that the southpaw batsman will atleast play three games.

Interestingly, this is a welcome sign for both Steven Smith and Warner if they can get some game time under their belt.
