India legend Sunil Gavaskar has thrown his weight behind young opener from Mumbai Prithvi Shaw to board the flight to Australia for the Test series scheduled later this year.

Meanwhile, Team India has a tough task in hand at Lord’s in the second Test of the five-match Test series against England. After losing the first Test by 31 runs at Edgbaston, the Three Lions are in the driver’s seat once again.

The hosts rode on James Anderson’s five-wicket haul to skittle India for a mere 107 runs in the first innings.

The weather conditions in the country have assisted the bowlers in exposing the same old problem of the batsmen who have now failed in all the three innings so far.

Gavaskar has slammed the Indian batters and feels young Shaw should get a nod ahead.

Shaw has been in scintillating form in the domestic season piling up runs match after match. He was also amongst the runs in the four-day fixtures for India A during their recent England tour as well.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Sunil Gavaskar feels Prithvi Shaw could be on the flight to Australia for the Test series.

He has certainly done very well. I think he should be on the selection committee’s radar. He could be on the flight to Australia,” he said.

Gavaskar slams management for dropping Dhawan:

India dropped Shikhar Dhawan only after the first Test match and Gavaskar feels that he is being made the scapegoat in every overseas tour.

Gavaskar is of the opinion that the team management has to back him as he’s the left-hander and gives an aggressive option at the top of the order as well.

My point about Dhawan is that he is always dropped after one Test. Others get another opportunity. He should have also got a second chance. If you look at the scores for India, in the first Test, he scored more runs than Murali Vijay and KL Rahul. So. what are the criteria? In addition to that, he is a left-hander,” Gavaskar concluded.
