India has started their campaign on a strong note in ICC World Test Championship. They already won both of their games against West Indies in West Indies and also got a solid start in the ongoing Test against South Africa. Despite that, Sunil Gavaskar isn’t pleased with the selection procedure of the team management.
The former Indian opening batsman quoted that the selectors are hampering the confidence of the players with their regular change in the lineups despite performing extremely well. He took the case of Ravichandran Ashwin as his prime example.

You don’t become ICC’s No. 1 Test bowler for nothing – Sunil Gavaskar
He wants the team management to not let down the confidence of a player, who did extremely well for the Indian team. Sunil Gavaskar quoted that players will not easily attain the number 1 position in the ICC Rankings. He added that Ashwin should be part of the playing XI irrespective of where the Indian National Cricket Team plays the longer version of the game.

“You don’t become ICC’s No. 1 Test bowler for nothing. He has the ability to pick wickets anywhere in the world. The team management has to understand this and back Ravichandran Ashwin,” Gavaskar told the official broadcasters during the 1st Test in Vizag.
Murali Vijay should have given run:
Sunil Gavaskar also gave examples of Murali Vijay and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who are currently not in India’s scheme of things in Tests. He also stressed that selection should be done in a way that it does not hamper a player’s confidence.

“I remember last year in South Africa Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up a lot of wickets in the first Test, he really swung the ball but he was dropped for the next Test. Murali Vijay too I believe should have been given a longer run. Selection has to be in such a way that the confidence of the player is not down. I mean there may be communication inside the dressing room which we are certainly not aware,” Gavaskar said.
Well, it would be interesting to see whether the team management would have a look into the suggestion made by Sunil Gavaskar or not. Recently, Ravi Shastri quoted that no one has to question him regarding the selection process, which got various things to consider.
